My First Evaluations!

YEEEHOOOOOOOOOOO

Huzzah! The first half of my GSoC period went smooth! I had lots of fun writing code and seeing my PRs turn purple! I am so lucky to be part of such a cool organization. It’s really active and booming, and I am having a great time here working for Dask.

It’s been 8 weeks already, and it still feels as if I am new here, ready to learn every day. Every new issue, every new discussion, I get to explore a new part of the Dask codebase. I am always left astounded by the complexity (yet the simplicity) of the codebase. There are over 400 contributors at the dask/dask repository. I can finally see myself over there in the Contributors List (https://github.com/dask/dask/graphs/contributors).

The most magical part to me sees my name in the commit history of the repository.

First Evaluations

AND FREYAM’s HIT IT OUT OF THE PARK!

Let’s gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! I think I couldn’t have asked for a better mentor. Genevieve wrote me an outstanding detailed review and it also contained really accurate points to improve upon. I passed my first evaluation and also got paid 45% of the stipend.

My review of my mentors

Genevieve is really cool! I really like talking with her. She always has something pleasant to share with me, and every time I talk with her, I learn something new. She has made it very easy for me to understand how the Dask codebase works. With her assistance, I was able to swiftly comprehend the principles of my project throughout this time frame. She is really pleasant, helpful, and welcoming.

My Mentors’ review of me

You’ve been proactive with talking to Martin & me on Slack and with other people in the community in GitHub threads. That’s great; keep it up. I’ve been pleased that you are getting stuck in tinkering with problems, especially when you hit roadblocks. You’ve been persistent in trying to fix things on your own and have been good about mentioning these things to us so we can give you troubleshooting tips too. It’s also been good to see you go off and become familiar with things outside your current experience (like the Graphviz documentation) and then implementing stuff you’ve learned.

Me chilling with my first ever paycheck!

Sayonara 👋
